Domestic Travel

Domestic Travel refers to travel more than 50 kilometres (one way) from UTS and within the borders of the Commonwealth of Australia.

If the travel involves fieldwork, refer to the UTS Fieldwork Guidelines

If the travel involves health or safety research related risks, complete a Research Risk Assessment.

Airline Deals

The University has negotiated airfares for domestic travel with two airlines - Qantas and Virgin.  Our Travel Agents (STA and Anywhere Travel) have been advised to provide travel bookers with three (3) quotation options:

  1. Lowest logical airfare
  2. Cheapest flight from a preferred airline (if not the lowest logical airfare)
  3. Next lowest logical airfare

NEW - Virgin Australia

Virgin now has a competitive offering to Qantas.  Virgin has a comfortable lounge in each major Australian city and offer access to international lounges via their global partners.  Virgin also has a frequent flyer loyalty program (Velocity) that incorporates their global partners.

Status Match Loyalty Program

Virgin will 'status match' loyalty program levels to corresponding Gold & Platinum levels in the Virgin Australia Loyalty Program (Velocity). Gold & Platinum status includes complimentary access to lounges. Virgin Status Match Promotion Conditions.  Offer ends 30 April 2014.

Virgin is also offering a complimentary single Virgin Australia lounge pass (once only) when a Virgin ticket is booked so that travellers can experience the lounge prior to purchasing a lounge membership. Please email once your fare has been booked and a lounge pass will be arranged.

Booking Domestic Travel

Information on booking and arranging travel is found at Before you travel.

Domestic Accommodation

Accommodation can be booked via the UTS preferred travel agent when booking airfare/s or you can book directly with the hotel/accommodation provider.

Use UTS preferred hotels for domestic travel if staying near the city campus. For other Australian and New Zealand cities and regional areas, University Travel provides access to a full range of accommodation types and standards ranging from 1 to 5 stars. You will need to register and create a log-in using your UTS email address when first visiting this site.
The best available rate should be booked at all times depending on hotel availability. In Australia this means accommodation will be in a standard room at 3 or 4 star level. Travellers might also consider a serviced apartment for extended stays.
For conferences travellers may select the hotel where the conference is held (if applicable).

Vehicle Hire

UTS has access to discounted rates for both Avis and Thrifty for hire of vehicles in Australia.
